As part of my divorce settlement my ex-husband inherited the Big Screen TV. I made sure of it. I replaced it with a 13" Portable TV and it took a chunk out of my electricity bill.
I was at a presentation recently and the speaker was on the topic of electrical currents in the atmosphere and that research indicates that these electrical currents have a negative effect on our health and, as a result, they weaken our immune system. He encouraged everyone to go home and unplug everything that was plugged into our electrical sockets because everything that is plugged in sucks up and consumes just a bit of electricity while not in use and emits these negative electrical currents. I took his advice and unplugged several lamps, kitchen appliances and other electronic gadgets that I rarely use, and some I don’t use at all but are merely a decorator’s touch, to protect my immune system. I was quite surprised that simply by unplugging all these gadgets and rarely used items actually saved some kilowatts of electricity and also saved me a few dollars on my electricity bill. A few months passed and I watched a TV segment to the effect that using power bars to plug electrical equipment into and using the on/off switch when they’re not in use also saves electricity. So now I shut my computer off at the power bar.
